Holy Family Institute Administration Building and Classrooms Renovation

In 2019, DLA+ completed a facilities master plan for the Holy Family Institute (HFI), a Catholic, not-for-profit institution whose mission is to provide help, healing, and hope to children and families throughout Western Pennsylvania. In response to program needs and a comprehensive facility assessment, the master plan provides a roadmap for incremental improvement projects. HFI subsequently retained DLA+'s services for the first project in the plan, renovating the existing Administrative Building to provide classrooms and labs for Nazareth Prep High School on HFI's Emsworth Campus.

Project Challenges and Outcome

Work included adding classroom and lab space, expanding the existing dining hall and upgrading the kitchen, creating additional offices, and improving site and building accessibility. DLA+ assisted with fundraising efforts, including securing a $2.75M RACP grant, to help fund this project and the next phase, a future student activities center including a gymnasium.

On the first floor, three new classrooms were added by combining several small existing rooms, which allowed the dining room to be expanded into an adjacent space, increasing dining capacity to 100 students. Food Service improvements included upgrading dishwashing equipment and creating a new opening for dish drop-off. Additional spaces included four new offices with a teacher lounge and restroom.

Work on the second floor consisted of the addition of six new classrooms and restroom modifications. New finishes were included in all areas, and MEP systems were modified where necessary.
